SCRN house

this project inserts a series of solar courts between living and sleeping spaces to elongate the floor plan and take advantage of views and privacy offered by the rural setting. Pivoting timber screens provide refuge from wind and sun, but allow views and solar gain at appropriate times of the year. The vaulted ceiling sections are clad in shingles and terminate in a filtered light box inspired by Moneo’s Stockholm museum. The building has the opportunity to become a closed, singular object resting in the landscape during those times that it is unoccupied. The level of articulation shown in the operation of the screens reflects the type and intensity of occupation occurring internally. The timber used for screens, decks and floors is harvested from the site and surrounds – the hardwood doesnt travel far from its place of origin…
