plotHouse attempts to redefine the notions of the traditional backyard – spaces are de-scaled through the use of elevated organising devices (in this case elevated steel trusses) to delineate smaller scale courts. A more humanised relationship with the outdoors is possible once the over scaled backyards (traditional of canberra blocks) are pulled apart and re-configured. Compartmentalisation of these exterior courts also allows for a sequence of focused outlooks from the interior living rooms (rather than a singular view of a lifeless landscape). The upper floor sleeping zone is a singular black prism that is void of articulation to create the sense of a continuous hovering eave and to retain primacy of the exterior living rooms
