h_02 is a new house within Canberra’s leafy inner south. It espouses some of the proportional and amenity principles established in classic mid century modernism. Interior spaces are light filled, and excised courtyards provide sun and outlook for interior rooms. The interior living spaces are compartmentalised from private sleeping quarters by vertical joinery plinths – spaces between these plinths allow light to filter into internal gallery spaces and circulation zones. A sunken rear reading room provides refuge and a sense of habitation within the rear garden. Continuous external terraces link the segregated internal living spaces within the garden. A front entry courtyard integrates operable vertical screens that can allow the occupants to mediate the extent of visual connection to the street front
